A statistic provided by Nepal Telecom has shown that approximately half the population of Nepal now has internet access.
According to a spokesperson for Nepal Telecom, Min Prasad Aryal, as of February/March 2010, 2.74 percent of the total population had internet access; the percentage rose to 48.39 percent by February/March 2016.
Out of the 2 crore 64 thousand 14 hundred and 704 people who live in Nepal, 1 crore 28 lakh 19 thousand 726 people have access to internet at least theoretically.
Most of these people access internet through Nepal Telecom’s services, but the number of people who use Ncell services is also significant.
The largest proportion of people with internet access use GSM services, with other modes of access including ADSL, CDMA and WiMAX.
Nepal Telecom has expressed the desire to expand access to all 75 districts by making ADSL more widely available in the upcoming years.
