The closed session of the first national general convention of the Tarai-Madhes Loktantrik Party (TMLP) is underway here.
The session will carry out amendment of the party statute and new instrument, review the Madhes uprising and formulate future planning as well as deliberate on party's organizational structure, TMLP Nawalparasi Vice Chairman, Puran Chaudhary said.
The national general convention is taking place within the premises of the Aadarsha Higher Secondary School. The party will endorse the party statute and political instrument today and hold election for new leadership on Wednesday morning.
The party is set to elect its office-bearers through direct electoral system. The amended statute will mention 'seven provinces including two in Tarai' before the political instrument is approved.
The general convention is being participated by 1500 representatives and observers from across the country. The convention will culminate into the election of a new party leadership on Wednesday before conclusion.
